Week of January 23-27

Second and third grade worked on identifying treble clef notes and translating them to instruments, as well as a tiny composing exercise. Second grade learned about the Woodwind family of instruments and made their own reeds out of straws, while third grade took time to polish their timeline assignments or begin a packet about Haydn and Mozart.

Here is the video explaining how woodwind instruments work and how to create your own buzzing straw: https://youtu.be/S6gBYYxvizs

First grade played a game called The Old Grey Cats that reinforced quarter and eighth note pulses and quickly reviewed their line and space notes for treble clef. They also began the melody for another Spring concert song: All the Beautiful Colors (De Colores). Kindergarten labeled piano keys, wrote basic rhythms, and began to learn another Spring concert song, The Bull Frog.
