Fifth Grade Curriculum
Notation: Students will be fluent in the treble clef and will read and write in the bass clef, and will develop literacy skills through composition as well. Simple melodic and rhythmic dictation will be part of ear training.
Solfege: Students will learn/review the entire solfege ladder over the course of the year (Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do).
Music History: Students will experience many different composers, their famous compositions, and learn to describe and analyze music using correct terminology. Students will experience ballets and classic music compositions such as the Nutcracker and Peter and the Wolf, in addition to in-depth looks at composers such as George and Ira Gershwin, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, and many more.
Performance: Students will learn three pieces for the mandatory winter and spring concerts, and will learn instrument practice skills.
