Week 5: Exams and Preparation

This week has been spent in assessments for most grades. 1st grade was tested on their ability to hear the differences between up and down, and Kindergarten on loud versus quiet, as well as the ability to keep the beat to a song. First Grade listened to Mendelsohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor and Kindergarten listened to Hayden's Surprise Symphony. 1st grade began to study the differences between a line note and a space note on the staff.

2nd and 3rd grade are preparing for the rhythm exam next week. 2nd Grade will be using their Lesson 9 as their study guide (since the exam is a shortened version of Lesson 9) and 3rd grade will be given a copy of the exam to fill out as a study guide (they can also use Lesson 1 and Lesson 6 to study). 2nd and 3rd grade also discussed how the concert went and ways to improve for the upcoming Spring concert.

Mallet Madness has decided that they wish to work on composition, improvisation, and performance. We are going to see what kind of performance we can arrange before Winter Break!

Just a reminder to 2nd and 3rd graders who missed the concert: your make-up essay is due next week.
