This week, both second and third grade continued developing their sight-reading skills for treble notes both vocally and on instruments, as well as writing treble notes in their books and on boards. First grade continued exploring "Teddy Bear," this time with a focus on melody. Kindergarten reviewed labeling piano keys and writing rhythms.
Third grade started their timeline project for the Classical music era. A paper detailing the activity has been passed to them, and I have pasted it below. This assignment is due Thursday, January 19th.
Second grade had a scavenger hunt to learn about the String family and third grade worked on their Timeline project. First grade and Kindergarten also explored the String family, with a storybook, listening, and movement.
Men's Chorus began this week! We did exercises to develop good choral vowels and began to learn one of our pieces: Elijah and Joshua.
Classical/Enlightenment Era Music Assignment
DUE THURSDAY, JANUARY 19th
You must choose an event in our Enlightenment/Classical Timeline (events are printed on the back of this sheet as well) to research and complete a small activity to show what you learned.
• Pick an event
• Read an article, read a section of a book, or watch a video of said event to learn a little bit about it
• Complete one of these three activities to show what you learned:
1. Write a brief paragraph (3-5 sentences) about your event and what you learned from your source
2. Draw a detailed picture (helpful diagrams are good too) of your event
3. Schedule a time to meet with me and briefly talk about your event and what you learned
For all three of these options, students must include the name/link to their source(s).
To get the 3 points, a student must complete the above, with detailed work showing facts gathered and turned in on time.
Late work will have a point subtracted every class it is not turned in.
FOR THE STUDENT WHO WANTS MORE
To get extra credit (up to a full 4 points in both content and participation) a student may complete more than one activity, or simply expand on one of them (example: a full essay instead of a paragraph, or an extra detailed/informative drawing)
For extra Depth of Inquiry credit, students can answer the question: how does this event reflect the Enlightenment Era? What about it - facts, events, people - makes it important enough to include in a Timeline describing this time in history? In short, why should we care about this?
PARTNERS/GROUPS
Students who work in groups of three or more are required to do TWO of the three activities!
Students are responsible for their own grade. If you choose to work with others and then change your mind, I will not grant a time extension. The project is due on the 19th.
Things to consider: if you are working with a partner or group, how will you work together over the weekend? Discuss this before class ends!
