Q3W10 - Spring Break!

3rd grade has learned about Tonic and Dominant in the scale - how Do is "home" and Sol is "away." They worked on harmonizing a basic song with C and G chords, and finished another reference sheet for their project. When they return, they will be ready to create their melody. 2nd grade learned about canons, continues to develop their treble clef literacy, and both higher grades learned about opera.

Kindergarten and 1st grade also learned about opera. All grades seemed to enjoy Tuesday's performance of Hansel and Gretel. The younger grades have worked on matching pitch, keeping a steady beat, moving to music, and notating music. All grades but 3rd learned about Irish bagpipes and Irish dancing.

Mallet Madness has almost perfected its song for performing at Fine Arts Night!

Q3W8

1st Grade watched a House of Sound video about the science of drums/how they make sound. Since it included instructions on how to make your own drums, I have posted it here - House of Sound: How Drums Work - for the students who wanted to make a drum at home out of a balloon, a cup, and a rubber band!

This week, all grades focused on concert music except for first grade, which looked at the Percussion family of instruments, taiko drumming, and composing rhythm.
