The Silence and the Song

How bright the morning that warms the afternoon
How rich the evening whose cloak reveals the moon
How pure the darkness that greets the breaking dawn
How sweet the silence [rest rest] just before the song

In winter’s stillness the dance of spring begins
In summer’s twilight the autumn breeze blows in
To ev’ry season both peace and pulse belong
So bound together, the silence and the song.

Before the tender lullaby can soothe us with its sound,
Before the finest symphony can swell with notes profound
The silence must resound, the silence [rest rest] must resound

3A: And so we listen… in moment calm… to hear, with wonder… the strains prolong
3B/3C: And so we listen… in moments clear and calm… to hear, with wonder… the quiet strains prolong

So when we sing with voices pure and strong
Both gifts surround us, the silence and the song.

Both gifts surround us, the silence and the song.

Q1W9

This week, all grades watched Peter and the Wolf and completed a worksheet for it. Next quarter, we will tie in theis new knowledge of the orchestra instruments to their historical counterparts.

2nd grade has memorized Al Shlosha - only the ending chords are left! They have almost memorized the verses for Joy to the World, and First Flakes is doing well.

3rd grade, due to several half days, needs more work on their songs. They have learned all three songs and now are working on memorization.

4th grade has almost all of Galop memorized, and both Hashivenu and I Saw Three Ships are done.

5th grade has their songs memorized and this week started auditions for the instrumental parts in A La Media Noche. Percussionists will be chosen and announced next week.
