Q1W7

This week, 2nd and 3rd grade continued repertoire work while 4th and 5th grade was also able to look at music theory.

2nd grade has learned all of "First Flakes," as well as learned the melody for "Joy to the World." 3rd Grade has learned a large chunk of "The Silence and the Song," and they finished "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel."

4th and 5th grade began working with the xylophone instruments, using them to apply their knowledge of reading staff lines and spaces. 4th grade also worked on memorizing "Galop," while 5th grade continued to develop "Wade in the Water."

Q1W6 - Concert Repertoire

Last week, students worked very hard on their concert music. All class time was spent on singing and learning the repertoire.

2nd Grade has almost all of First Flakes learned, and half of Al Shlosha.
3rd Grade is about to put Hanukkah Nagilah together - only a few lines of the Hebrew left to learn. O Come, O Come Emmanuel only needs the ending learned and the words memorized.
4th Grade began memorizing Galop, to great effect. Only two parts are missing still. They know I Saw Three Ships; only memorization of lyrics is needed. Hashivenu is completely learned!
5th Grade knows all of A La Media Noche and Numi, Numi - they just need to memorize them. Wade in the Water is almost learned - I just need to confirm that all three parts are memorized.

Q1W5

This past week, students finished up their unit on Ancient Greek music. There are a few students in 4th and 2nd grade who will be finishing their notes at some point later next week, but otherwise all is finished. Students have been given an optional assignment: to draw a picture of all 9 muses to be put on display after Winter Break.

All classes are still developing songs for Winter Concert; this week we are working on memorization!

Lyrics to songs will be posted soon.
